Yuanyang

Yuanyang Yuanyang

Introduction:

We always have to make a choice between coffee and tea when we are having meals in a restaurant. Have you ever thought of mixing coffee and tea? Well, yuanyang is actually a concoction of milk tea and coffee. It is a hundred percent Hong Kong production for sure, which targets at catering for the tastes of the locals.

Taste:

You can smell the scent of the coffee in the distance. Yet, when you take a sip of the yuanyang, you feel like you are drinking a cup of milk tea instead. That is exactly why it makes the whole drink become so appealing!

Interview [Download the sound recordings (Cantonese)]:

Personally speaking, yuanyang appears to be more special that normal milk tea. It tastes like milk tea and smells like coffee. Unfortunately, a cup of well-made yuanyang can hardly be found. The proportion of milk, tea and coffee should be more or less the same. Undoubtedly, this is a real big challenge during the process of preparing the yuanyang. LetĦĤs say if there is too much milk present, it will definitely cover up the taste of tea. So what is the significance of trying it out? It makes no difference for me to gulp down a cup of milk. On the other hand, too much tea present will make the drink bitter. While too much coffee present will cover the scent of the tea, making it hard for us to enjoy the uniqueness and loveliness of the beverage.

I used to order milk tea before until one day, my curiosity motivated me to try out a cup of yuanyang. And I probably fell in love with it at first sight it after I had taken a slight sip of it.
