Aims of Activity :
 
 To help the curriculum leaders understand how people respond to change, factors that lead to the success or failure of a change and how to manage the change process
 To provide an opportunity for curriculum leaders to apply the knowledge they have learnt from the 'Managing change' workshop to create a change management plan for their own schools

Part 1: Introduction
 
Participants shared their learning after attending the morning sharing session on ‘Leading English and Cross-disciplinary Curriculum Innovations at School.
        
2:10 pm - 2:25 pm
Part 2: Understanding how people respond to change
 
To respond to the updated curriculum reform, middle managers need to implement some new curriculum focuses. It is necessary for them to learn how to lead their teams to manage the change process.

Part 3: What factors affect the success of an initiative?
 
Most factors, apart from money and time, relate to the stakeholders involved. Therefore, if we want to lead the changes, we need to address their concerns.

Part 4: How to prevent failure (I)?
 
The Concerns-based Adoption Model was introduced to help participants understand the stakeholders’ concerns. The model starts from level 0 to level 6. Each stage shows how ready the stakeholders are when they are facing change. After finding out the individuals’ and the school’s concerns, the management can give suggestions and take action to address each of the concerns.

Part 5: How to prevent failure (II)?
 
This part of the workshop guided teachers through the 8 steps of the Kotter’s change model to promote e-learning to enhance the effectiveness of learning and teaching.

Part 6: Applying Kotter’s 8-step change model to implement curriculum innovations at school
 
Teachers formed groups and were given different scenarios of implementation of curriculum innovations at school. Through discussion and role playing the scenes, they worked out some ways to solve the anticipated problems collaboratively.

Key messages & conclusion
 
To ensure successful implementation of the new initiatives, curriculum leaders need to understand the internal turmoil every person experiences during a change event, as well as help each person feel more comfortable with change and the process of change.
