Objectives of the network:

• Address the new education issue – Conducting Reading Workshops in primary schools
• Promote the teaching of literacy and vocabulary building skills in primary levels
• Create a platform for facilitating school-to-school collaboration
• Provide a channel for sharing practical experience and knowledge
• Enable individual schools to address their own needs

Past event:
The first networking activity “Learning the tricks to teach readers” was conducted on 6 July 2007. Fifty-one teachers from nineteen schools participated in the event. Eight schools have been identified as core schools and seven core teachers presented their teaching ideas in the activity. There was also a mini-exhibition to display the learning and teaching materials teachers developed for conducting Reading Workshops in P1 to P6.

In the two-hour session, teachers shared:

1. how they taught a particular reader;
2. what post-reading activity was conducted for students to share their reading experience; and
3. teaching materials such as lesson plans, worksheets, students' work, video clips and photos.
