A revised
International Charter on Physical Education (PE), Physical Activity (PA) and
Sport by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO)
Background
¡@¡@UNESCO has adopted a
revised International Charter on PE, PA and Sport on Dec 2015. The revised
Charter opens up to the concept of PA and integrates a number of new
dimensions of the reality of sport, which are of interest to Olympic Movement,
such as diversity of practice, multi-stakeholder partnerships, good governance,
accountability and health related benefits.
Schools
2. The Education Bureau (EDB)
attaches great importance to PE for training the body and mind of students, and
promote their health. The rationale, aims, content and strategies of PE matches
the advocates of the revised Charter.

Disregarding
gender, ethnical, religious and social background, all students can participate
in PA and sport.
l
PE
is one of the eight key learning areas of the school curriculum and students
are entitled to have 5-8% of the total curriculum time for PE.
l
Students
are encouraged to engage in an accumulation of 60 minutes of moderate to
vigorous intensity daily PA, a recommendation of World Health Organisation.
l
Schools
are encouraged to use school-based learning and teaching strategies to cater
for learner diversity through a board and balanced variety of PA, so that
students become physically literate, knowledgeable, motivated and competent for
PA.

3. EDB always works
collaboratively with different partners for promoting sport culture in schools,
which are in line with the educational values of Olympism.
For examples:

Equal
opportunity participation in inter-school sports competitions for all students organised by the Hong Kong School Sports Federation.
l
The
School Sports Programme with the Leisure and Cultural
Services Department which includes education programmes,
sport training and award schemes.
l
The
¡§Sports Legacy¡¨ Scheme organised by the Hong Kong
Athletes Career and Education Programme under the
auspices of the Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China with features of sports
training, promotion of Olympism and sporting culture
in schools.
