Introduction to the project (Provided by the school): There are many famous number sequences in Mathematics, from simple ones to difficult ones. For example, odd number sequence is learned by all primary students, while Fibonacci sequence is only found in the library books for secondary students. Some of the number sequences are highly related to our daily life but some of them are not. For example, Fibonacci sequence is related to the growth of rabbit population but prime number sequence is pure mathematical. No matter the number sequences are simple or difficult, usually they
have a common characteristic -- they can be represented by a mathematical
formula. For example, the odd numbers can be represented by 2n+1 and the
Fibonacci numbers can be represented by the formula
Our project aims to explore the mathematical formula of a particular number pattern. The number pattern is invented by our group. The following paragraphs will highlight the process of our findings. Referring to the following table, if we put a “+” sign on it, we discover that the sum of all the numbers in the “+” sign can be calculated by a simple formula.
Similarly, if we put an "L" shape on the table, we also discover a general formula for the sum of the numbers in the "L" shape.
We further explore the mathematical formula for the "C" shape. We also discover the formula.
