Background information

A collaborative research and development project was done with the S1 and S2 teachers and students on the development of listening skills at KS3.  The teachers raised the following areas of concern:

  1. What are students’ needs in listening?
  2. How can we address students’ needs and improve their listening skills at the pre-, while-, and post-stages of listening?
  3. How can we make use of our existing resources to offer support to students in listening?
The teachers found there is a gap between the listening component of the HKDSE and student learning in the junior level.  If they do not help students lay a sound foundation at KS3, it is difficult to help students transit smoothly to KS4.  Therefore, they analysed students’ needs, developed the school-based curriculum and made use of resources to equip students with the listening skills necessary for the senior level.
