> R & D Background

Since the MOI fine-tuning arrangements, schools are encouraged to provide students with more opportunities for more language exposure and use, with a view to enhancing their confidence and motivation in learning English.
To prepare students for the new era of globalization and the challenge of the new senior secondary curriculum, teachers of Chan Sui Ki (La Salle) College found that it was essential to motivate their junior secondary students in learning English and nurture them to become proficient in the use of the English language so that they can be well-prepared when they move to senior secondary levels.
The school decided to make use of cross-curricula planning and collaboration as an entry point. Yet, teachers had to tackle the following problems first:

1) Where shall we start?
2) Who should be involved in this project? Different teachers have different levels of readiness.
3) What kind of knowledge and skills do our teachers need?
4) How do we develop our students’ academic literacy in content subjects through LAC?
5) How far should we go? Are we going to implement all subjects in the coming year?

In view of the school’s contexts and teachers’ different concerns, interests and readiness, the school set up an LAC task group and adopted a step-by-step approach to make cross-curricular links among different Key learning Areas (KLAs) to promote LAC.
