> Abstract

Having been introduced to the flipped classroom model and made aware of the benefits it could bring, the English teachers of Carmel Divine Grace Foundation Secondary School adopted this approach in their S4 Drama elective module.  Apart from developing their students' confidence and skills in speaking, they aimed at nurturing essential 21st century skills such as higher order thinking, collaboration and IT skills.  Before class, students had to learn the lesson content so that the time originally spent on unidirectional teaching in class could be freed up for them to engage in various collaborative and creative learning activities such as group discussion and presentations, drama performances and provision of peer feedback.  e-Learning tools, such as Quizlet and Google Apps for Education, were used in the module to enhance the effectiveness of students' learning.  The evidence and feedback collected throughout the project indicated that students were more actively engaged in learning and the quality of peer feedback, students' responses to high-order thinking questions, self-reflection and group discussion are good proof of their deeper learning.
