Background The teachers of this school find their students have three problems in writing, namely, analysing the question requirements, organising ideas for writing information texts and elaborating ideas.
To help students tackle these problems, teachers used the following methods:
-
Analyse the question using RAFT
R: role of the writer A: audience F: format T: topic
-
Use hamburger concept to help students understand the structure of writing
Use Hamburger concept to help students understand a good piece of information text should contain 3 major parts. It is like a hamburger: with top bread (introduction), beef (supporting details in the middle) and another piece of bread at the end (conclusion).
-
Use traffic light concept
Teach students how to elaborate ideas by using a proper paragraph structure: a topic sentence, supporting details (examples) and a concluding sentence.
