Introduction |
2:35 pm - 3:05 pm |
Case 1: Making interdisciplinary connections to ignite the learning spark |
Teachers of The H.K.C.W.C. Hioe Tjo Yoeng Primary School incorporated Reading across the Curriculum and life-wide learning into selected P1 units to maximise students' exposure to English and broaden their knowledge about different topics. Two projects, "Visiting the Park" and "Designing a New House for the Three Little Pigs", were shared to showcase how cross-curricular links among English, General Studies and STEM education could be made; and how meaningful life-wide learning activities outside the classroom and the school (e.g. visit to the park) could be designed. Apart from enjoying the learning process, students have read a greater quantity and variety of books. They were able to make use of the knowledge gained from their reading and the visits to create new ideas and/or solve problems. |

Case 2: Incorporating values education into the school-based KS2 writing curriculum |
Teachers of Li Sing Primary School shared how they had made use of the Life Event Approach to develop students at cognition, affection and action levels through integrating authentic values-laden issues into their curriculum design so as to deepen their learning and application of positive values and attitudes. Observations during lessons and their students’ work showed that they gained a deeper understanding of the target values through increased opportunities to act and to reflect. Analysis of student work revealed that they were able to make sound value judgement, manifest empathy as well as propose actions to take to realise the target values. |

Case 3: Paving the way for independent learning: Incorporating self-directed learning elements and life-wide learning into the school-based English curriculum |
English teachers of Chan Sui Ki (La Salle) Primary School enriched the P4 module "Old Hong Kong" by infusing self-directed learning elements into the learning process and making the learning outcomes of the module as part of the school's annual whole-school life-wide learning Creativity Carnival, for which students were required to prepare for a Puppet Workshop and Puppet Show about Hong Kong in the old times. Through completing a series of language tasks including drafting puppet-making instructions for the Puppet Workshop and writing dialogues and speeches to introduce different aspects of Hong Kong in the old times for the Puppet Show, students learnt and applied knowledge and generic skills in an integrative manner. During the learning process, students were guided to select appropriate learning resources, review and evaluate their learning performance by conducting self- and peer assessment, and set further learning goals for future improvement, thereby enhancing their learning to learn capabilities. The authentic application of knowledge and skills had provided students with a good connection between their learning and real-life situations outside the classroom. |
