2.
A whole school approach to maximising students' learning experiences

Grooming students into future leaders requires school-wide planning and leadership at different levels. Principals and curriculum leaders of Shap Pat Heung Rural Committee Kung Yik She Primary School and Ying Wa Primary School are going to share how their school-based curricula are optimised to cultivate positive values and 21st century skills and competencies among their students; and how language teachers are mobilised to work concertedly to realise the vision.

3.
Supporting students to progress from "Learning to Read" to "Reading to Learn"

Appropriate use of self-directed learning strategies not only enhances students' learning motivation, but also enables them to make progress in the target areas. To guide students in learning how to read, English teachers from Yaumati Catholic Primary School (Hoi Wang Road) and Kwong Ming Ying Loi School have identified vocabulary building strategies and grammar use as their respective development focuses. Emphasis has been placed on designing meaningful tasks and self-directed learning activities for students to apply and reflect on the use of vocabulary building strategies and grammar knowledge in different contexts, thereby enhancing their capability to read on their own.

4.
Cultivating positive values among students through appreciating classical masterpieces and characters in literature

In a digital and knowledge-based society, students not only need to learn to read and enjoy reading, but also have to master Reading to Learn skills. Chinese teachers of Alliance Primary School, Whampoa, adopted a "Whole Book Reading" approach to creating a rich reading atmosphere. To strengthen students'learning of Chinese literature and Chinese culture, two classical masterpieces–Journey to the West and《花木村與盜賊們》were chosen. In the reading process, students were guided to integrate their life experiences and learning experiences in order to gain a deeper understanding of the connotations of the texts. "24 Character Strengths and Virtues" were used to help students analyse different characters and reflect on their own strengths and weaknesses so as to foster positive character building among students.

5.
Cultivating positive personal qualities and responsibility for learning through Reading across the Curriculum

To broaden students' horizons, promote their love and care for animals and plants, and cultivate their sense of responsibility for the environment, English teachers of Ta Ku Ling Ling Ying Public School designed a Reading across the Curriculum programme for P4 and P5 students. Teachers will share how appropriate themes and related learning materials can be selected to enrich the reading input; and how self-directed learning, life-wide learning and experiential learning can be incorporated into the task design to increase students' responsibility for learning and maximise their learning experiences.

6.
Developing students' comprehensive literacy through cross-curricular learning

Developing learning skills and positive values among students would enable them to cope with present and future challenges. Chinese, General Studies and other subject teachers of Farm Road Government Primary School offered cross-curricular learning experiences to their Primary 5 students. Through experiential learning activities on planting and water quality testing, students were guided to apply knowledge in different subjects, life knowledge and skills in an integrated manner. Furthermore, through writing a proposal on "Sky Garden" or tips for planting, students' language skills and generic skills were enhanced and such universal values as benevolence and civic responsibility were nurtured.
