Introduction to the Learning Communities

Members were introduced to our LCs, including the goals, expected outcomes, key features, strategies adopted and activities to be held. The findings of the pre-programme survey, including members’ expectations of the LCs and the curriculum initiatives they are interested to explore, were also discussed.

Managing change: Kotter’s 8-Step Change Model

Members were introduced to using the Kotter’s 8-Step Change Model to implement change in their school. They reflected on their role as a change agent and how they can manage change more effectively and efficiently.

LC (Primary): Maximising students’ learning time through self-directed learning, e-learning and making effective use of the flexible lesson time

Members learnt about the updated major renewed emphases in the Primary Education Curriculum Guide (Pilot Version) and discussed how to maximise students’ learning time through involving students in a variety of self-directed learning and e-learning tasks. They also shared with one another how their school has been making use of the flexible lesson time to enrich students’ learning experiences.

LC (Secondary): Integrating the Elective Part components into the Compulsory Part of the senior secondary English Language curriculum

Through the cases shared by the guest speakers from two secondary schools, members learnt how to integrate the Elective Part components into the Compulsory Part of the senior secondary English Language curriculum to cater for diverse students’ learning needs and foster their whole-person development. They also had the opportunity to review optimisation in their own school and share with other members their school-based integration practices through the thinking routine “Connect, Extend, Challenge”.
