Teacher: Ms Cynthia So

Information about expertise: Ms Cynthia So, the English Panel Chairperson of S.K.H. St. Mary's Church Mok Hing Yiu College, has been effectively infusing Life Planning Education (LPE) into the school English curriculum to cultivate students' work-related knowledge, skills and values and attitudes alongside their language development. Not only did she incorporate the core LPE elements into English learning activities and tasks of thematic units on the world of work to support the senior secondary students' transition from study to work, but she also connected the classroom learning activities and tasks with the work-related life-wide learning activities outside school to foster students' whole-person development. Being a competent curriculum leader, Ms So has shared her experiences in curriculum planning and management, as well as classroom teaching in several professional development activities.

Information about expertise:  Mr Cliff Yeung, English Panel Chairperson of Tsang Pik Shan (Sung Lan) Secondary School, adopted a variety of effective strategies to address students’ varied abilities, interests and learning styles through engaging them in authentic and meaningful learning experiences. In addition, he has led the English Department in working collaboratively with the Careers Guidance Team to design a variety of career exploration activities to promote Life Planning Education inside and outside the classroom with the aim of broadening students’ horizons and developing their potentials.

Information about expertise:  Mr Isaac Lai is an experienced English panel head and Ms Pauline Leung is an experienced English teacher of Catholic Ming Yuen Secondary School. They have demonstrated extensive experience in planning and implementing Life Planning Education (LPE) and life-wide learning (LWL) activities inside and outside the English classroom, including empowering their students to organise a large-scale exhibition on the school campus and inviting them to interview different community partners to explore career options and develop career aspirations. They are also adept at aligning classroom learning of LPE elements with LWL activities beyond the classroom, and creating opportunities for their students to gain valuable experiences in authentic contexts and to make reflections on their learning.

Information about expertise:  Ms Ivy Lai, English Panel Chairperson of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Yau Tze Tin Memorial College promoted Life Planning Education to motivate students to learn and prepare them for the future. Through taking aptitude tests, setting up simulated companies, writing job advertisements, attending mock job interviews and paying visits to workplaces, students' capability in reflecting on and sharing their career-related learning experiences was enhanced, thereby facilitating their whole-person development and lifelong learning.

Information about expertise:  Mr Ken Ho and Ms Janetta Man of Lok Sin Tong Yu Kan Hing Secondary School infused Life Planning Education elements into the formal school-based curriculum. Community resources were effectively utilised to create authentic experiential career exploration activities for students. Co-curricular activities such as uniform design competition, fashion show, latte art classes and competitions were organised for students to apply their learning in authentic and real-life situations.

Information about expertise  Ms Freda Tse of Yu Chun Keung Memorial College No. 2 coherently infused life-planning education into different teaching units to help students understand their interests, abilities and career preferences, and explore different types of jobs available in the market. Visits to different places like restaurants and vocational training institutes were also arranged to create career-related experiences. Also, a variety of e-tools were used, which maximised interactions within and outside the classroom, thereby raising students' confidence in using the target language.

Information about expertise:  Ms Cherry Man and her English team of Yuen Long Catholic Secondary School made learning more meaningful for their KS3 students by infusing career education elements into the curriculum. A workplace simulation project was designed to provide their students with opportunities to develop their employability skills and personal attributes through setting up their own companies and selling their own products.
