Objectives

This support service aims to:

  • enhance the professional capacities of teachers in supporting non-Chinese speaking (NCS) students to learn Chinese; and
  • establish a platform for teachers who teach NCS students to share learning and teaching resources, experiences, and practical insights with other schools

Foci of Support

  • Enhance the professional capacities of teachers in planning, implementation, and evaluation of learning and teaching through cross-school professional development activities, including thematic seminars, collaborative lesson planning and observation, and school-based experience sharing
  • Respond to school development needs through on-site meetings, with a view to enabling teachers to understand the learning needs of NCS students, adapt learning and teaching as well as assessment strategies, provide diversified learning experiencesfor cultivating NCS students' confidence and interest in learning Chinese, and for laying a solid foundation in Chinese learning
  • Lead teachers to co-construct and transfer knowledge through conducting cross-school collaborative lesson planning, optimising teaching design, developing learning and teaching materials, etc., and provide feedback on teachers' classroom practices to enhance learning and teaching effectiveness

Target Members

  • Chinese Language teachers who will teach lower primary NCS students in the next school year (Schools are welcome to nominate a maximum of two teachers)

Meeting Time

  • Tuesday afternoons (8-10 meetings in a school year)
