> Abstract

Self-directed learning is one key development focus at Buddhist Chi King Primary School, and e-learning has been chosen as a means of achieving the development goal. It is against this background that several e-learning trials were conducted in the English writing curriculum at two P3 digital or Bring-your-own-device (BYOD) classes. To help students strengthen their writing skills and engage more in their own learning, the English team designed writing tasks that were well-aligned with the textbook units and incorporated appropriate and effective e-resources in the planned activities. During the e-writing lessons, students worked on their iPads on their own or with their peers and transferred the digital input into their own writing on paper. Special attention was paid to the way to guide students to produce more relevant ideas and arrange them in a logical manner. The collected writing samples, students’ performance in the final examination, and lesson observations revealed that students had made some progress in their ability to write and organise elaborations. Their computer literacy was enhanced at the same time.
