> R & D Background

Among the objectives of the curriculum reform in Hong Kong are the improvement of students’ learning motivation and the fostering of independent and lifelong learning. In order to reach these goals, in recent years English teachers have adopted more language arts activities, engaged students in project work and consciously included the development of generic skills such as communication, creativity and critical thinking in the school-based curriculum. In preparation for the New Senior Secondary Curriculum, schools are also interested in incorporating into their junior form curriculum elements from the elective modules prescribed for English, four of which (Learning English through Drama, Poems and Songs, Popular Culture and Short Stories) feature language arts.
