Many teachers are concered about how to cater for learner diversity as all students can continue their studies to S6 under the senior secondary curriculum.
Teachers of Yan Chai No.2 Secondary School therefore decided to design a wedding company project for Learning English through Workplace Communication aiming at catering for learner diversity. The project was piloted in S4. Students formed groups, set up their own wedding companies, and presented their products and services in a Wedding Expo. Students were given lots of choices throughout the process. They could choose the tasks according to their maturity, motivation, ability, learning styles, aspirations and interests. Through the project, students developed positive learning attitudes towards learning English and were more confident in using the language. They realised that English is useful in a workplace. The project helped them not only gain a sense of achievement, but also understand the importance for their career prospects of improving their English standard.
