Anticipating the challenges posed by implementing LAC in a whole school manner and facing the needs, interests and readiness of different Key Learning Areas (KLAs), the management of the school raised several concerns:
1)
Where shall we start? Do we need a holistic plan to give teachers a clear direction on the progressive involvement of different KLAs within four years?
2)
Do our teachers have the necessary knowledge and skills to implement this new initiative? Who can take the lead to guide them?
3)
How do we communicate the vision and mission effectively to our teachers? Do we need some channels to exchange ideas and experiences?
Kotter (1996) pointed out in “8-Step Process for Leading Change Model” that putting together the right coalition of people to lead a change initiative is critical to its success. Anticipating the challenges posed by the implementation of LAC, middle and senior managers decided to use a range of approaches to support the teachers of different KLAs and so ensure that obstacles and difficulties were dealt with collaboratively, and deep lasting change could be achieved.
