An introduction to our work

In June 2003, the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) issued the Final Report of Language Education Review - Action Plan to Raise Language Standards in Hong Kong. One of the recommendations was to set up a task force of teaching consultants to provide Chinese Language (including Putonghua) and English Language support services to all primary and secondary schools with a view to enhancing the professional capacity of Chinese and English panel heads and teachers to implement the curriculum reform. The Task Force on Language Support was formally set up in September 2004 to take forward this recommendation.

Our Vision

Our vision is to foster students’ whole-person development and lifelong learning through raising their language standards.

Our Mission

Our mission is to develop a dedicated and professional team of language panel heads and teachers who can provide students with a language-rich environment for effective language learning.

Our Aims

  • To raise students' language abilities through activating their learning motivation and unlocking their learning potential

  • To develop the capacity of curriculum leaders to innovate, lead and manage changes for the betterment of language learning and teaching in schools

  • To nurture a community of practice among teachers and schools with a sharing, reflective, collaborative and innovative culture

Our Support

  • We collaborate with schools on a wide range of focuses and offer different modes of support services to meet the diverse needs of schools.

  • We have a strong network of experts and experienced frontline educators with varied expertise to support schools to implement different curriculum innovations.

  • We have developed a rich pool of school curriculum practices, comprising research-based classroom study on issues related to language learning and teaching and a variety of school-based learning and teaching materials, for sharing with the school sector.

  • We promote professional learning and collaboration among teachers and schools through a variety of professional development activities such as seminars, workshops, lesson observations and inter-school visits.

Our Journey with Schools

Since the inception of the education reform in around 2000, we have witnessed immense changes in the field of education. Apart from catering for the contextualised needs of schools, the Task Force has helped the school sector implement different language-related policies and reforms, including Specialised Teaching, Small Class Teaching, (New) Senior Secondary Curriculum, teaching Chinese to non-Chinese speaking students, fine-tuning arrangements of the medium of instruction, ongoing renewal of the school curriculum, etc. In the course of planning and implementing those policies and initiatives, we have met with great challenges, especially those posed by uncertainty in the internal and external school environments. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges to the school sector. Yet, the proactive response and commitment of the teachers and their untiring efforts to improve professional skills and build a collaborative culture among the teacher teams have not only enabled them to overcome those challenges, but have also brought about real changes at school, department, and most encouragingly, classroom levels.

We salute our collaborating schools for placing their trust in the Task Force over these years! Together we have grown in confidence and competence in providing the best language education for our students.
