Information about expertise:  Ms Nicole Wang, the English Panel Chairperson of Ta Ku Ling Ling Ying Public School, has experience in planning and implementing Reading across the Curriculum programmes. She has led her team to conduct systematic curriculum planning across levels based on the Learning Progression Framework. She has also employed a variety of strategies such as setting differentiated learning goals and expected outcomes, and using flipped learning, e-learning, experiential learning and multimodal texts in task-based units and RaC projects at different levels to cater for students’ diverse needs, interests and language abilities. Through collaborating with teachers of other content subjects including General Studies, Mathematics and Visual Arts teachers to promote RaC, she has created an array of engaging and meaningful English learning activities for students to achieve whole-person development.

Information about expertise:  Ms Kylie Leung, English Panel Chairperson of The Church of Christ in China Chun Kwong Primary School, led her team to broaden their school-based English Language curriculum through the integration of Reading across the Curriculum and self-directed learning in Key Stage 1. Specific features include:

  • using authentic fiction and non-fiction texts to promote values education;

  • designing meaningful and creative tasks to nurture students' self-directed learning capabilities including setting learning goals and evaluating learning outcomes;

  • adopting diversified assessment modes including self-assessment, peer assessment and e-assessment;

  • infusing life-wide learning through different parent-child activities; and

  • adopting a blended learning approach in response to the suspension of face-to-face classes due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

They infused STEM elements into modular design to ignite students' sense of wonder by asking them to design a product using the closed circuit to solve some problems. The project was initiated by the English Language subject and extended to cross-disciplinary collaboration with General Studies, Visual Arts, teacher-librarian and the Information Technology teams.

Information about expertise:  Ms Irron Wong, Ms To Yee Ching and Ms Brenda Li, the English teachers of Shatin Tsung Tsin School, possess a lot of experience in promoting Reading across the Curriculum (RaC) at KS2. They collaborated with the General Studies teachers and the teacher-librarian to foster P6 students' reading of non-fiction texts and organized a cross-key stage RaC buddy reading programme for them to work with the Secondary 2 students of a neighbouring school. They also infused STEM elements into a P5 module.
