> R & D Background

Facing the diversified requirements and needs of different subjects, teachers are concerned whether their existing language curriculum can cater for the needs of their students in the following areas:

  1. Do they have enough language exposure inside and outside the classroom?
  2. Have students prepared well to use English to study content subjects?
  3. Do students have the academic literacy required when studying content subjects at senior secondary and tertiary levels?

In view of this, teachers think there is a need to modify their existing curriculum by fostering greater cross-curricular links between English and content subjects so that they can develop students’ academic literacy and facilitate better transition from P6 to S1 and from S3 to S4. To achieve this goal, since last year, teachers have been working closely with the Language Learning Support Section on using the LAC Periods and LAC Days to increase students’ language exposure inside and outside the classroom.
