> Abstract

This project aimed to boost students’ motivation to learn English and help them understand themselves and their academic or career aspirations. This focus was chosen because students showed little interest in learning English in a conventional setting. Great diversity in their learning needs and exit pathways was also found among students. Therefore, besides providing a variety of applied learning courses at the senior secondary level, the school also developed a school-based English curriculum at the junior secondary level, which contained careers education or life planning elements to help address the diverse interests and needs of students and support their smooth transition to the next stage of learning. In line with the school goals of promoting learning beyond the classroom and life planning, fun life-wide learning activities, which were well-aligned with the themes of the units learned in class, were organised for S1-3 students to arouse their interest in learning English and increase their exposure to the world of work. Student reflection was done after each activity to help them gain understanding of their aptitudes, abilities and interests for personal planning in the future.
